About TransUnion Credit Report Services and TrueCredit
TransUnion Article
This article focuses on TransUnion and the TransUnion credit report service called TrueCredit.
About the TransUnion Company
Like Equifax and Experian, TransUnion is a reporting agency for consumer credit: TransUnion provides credit reporting services for consumers and potential creditors alike.
TransUnion was formed in 1968 by the Union Car Company, which was also their holding company. Its entry into the credit market began in 1969 when TransUnion purchased the Credit Bureau of Cook County (CBCC). Other purchases of large city credit bureaus following on from the purchase of CBCC galvanized the TransUnion credit business to the point where TransUnion now operates in over 250 locations in the US and a further 24 countries globally. Up to January 2005, the Marmon Group owned TransUnion, after which time it became an independently owned company.
TransUnion Credit Reports & TrueCredit
The TransUnion credit report service made available to consumers is called TrueCredit. TrueCredit is a subscription based service that provides a 3 in 1 credit report, i.e. it shows you the credit reports of each of the three main US credit bureaus:
What Information Does a TransUnion Credit Report Contain?
Your TransUnion credit report will show you whther or not Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are showing your correct details including name and address details. Discrepencies here could be a sign that someone has committed identity fraud against you.
TransUnion credit reports will show you all of your vital credit information in an easy to read format. You will be able to see important details about loans or credit agreements you have including information about your credit cards. If you do not recognize some of the credit agreement information, again this may demonstrate that someone acting as you has committed identity fraud against you.
A TransUnion credit report will also show you who has looked at your credit report. This helps you to police account inquiries: if you have not authorized a specific credit check this may be a sign of fradulent activity.
TransUnion Credit Reports & Credit Scores
Alongside TransUnion's credit report, the TrueCredit service also shows you the credit scores that each of the three aforementioned credit report bureaus has predicted for you. Each credit Bureau uses a mathematical calculation to assign a number or credit score to you. This score is calculated according to several criteria such as your debt experience, late payments, surpassing your credit limits on credit cards among others. Credit scores are used by lenders and creditors to determine how creditworthy you are. The TransUnion TrueCredit credit score is an assimilation of how a lender might perceive your credit score: if your TransUnion credit score is high, it is likely that your credit score will be high in the eyes of other parties (a high credit score means that your credit-worthiness is good).
TransUnion TrueCredit Identity Theft Insurance
For an additional price TransUnion's TrueCredit also includes an insurance against identity theft.
